Russia: Putin awards Kazakhstan’s Tokayev medal honoring his late father
MOSCOW, RUSSIA - MAY 9, 2025: RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “KREMLIN PRESS OFFICE” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO — EDITORIAL USE ONLY Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, May 9, presented Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with the Order of the Patriotic War, Second Class, posthumously awarded to his father, Kemel Tokayev. The ceremony took place during a reception marking Victory Day, observed annually on May 9 in Russia and several former Soviet republics to commemorate the Soviet victory in what is known as the Great Patriotic War. Kemel Tokayev was honored for his bravery in battles fought on Polish territory during World War II, though the award had remained undelivered until now, according to officials.
