Monkey Steals Phone, Captures Vast Trove of Selfies in Malaysia

The mystery of who stole a man’s phone in Johor, Malaysia, on September 12 was not hard to solve when the owner discovered a vast trove of selfie photographs and videos of the culprit – a mischievous macaque monkey.Muhammad Zackrydz bin Mohd Rodzi owns the phone that was stolen, and originally posted the photos and videos to Twitter. The photos show the wide range of footage the monkey photographer captured. There are multiple “selfies, photos of trees and other foliage” on the phone, Rodzi said. This video also shows photos of the phone after the monkey had it. The phone is covered in mud, the screen protector was peeled off, and Rodzi had many missed messages.Rodzi told Storyful he went to sleep and when he woke up he realized his phone was missing. He searched under his bed and saw what he thought was his phone, but when he grabbed it, only the phone case remained. He asked his family if they had seen it, but had no luck.He told Storyful he was starting to get suspicious and thought someone had stolen his phone.“There’s no sign of robbery or something because everything is fine and my family have seen nothing, the only thing in my mind was maybe it’s some kind of sorcery or something,” he said.He said he tried calling his phone for two days but there was no trace. After his dad told him he had seen a monkey around, he and his brother decided to try looking in the backyard. His brother called the phone, and he heard it ringing near the trees behind his home. When he examined the phone, he found a gallery full of the photos and videos the monkey had captured.“There are photos, slo-mos, timelapse, portrait and everything,” Rodzi said.
