Israel: Netanyahu Runs Out of Time to Form Coalition | May 4, 2021
The Likud party is set to hold votes on a slate of right-wing legislative proposals Tuesday evening, which include bills that would establish direct elections for prime minister, instituting the death penalty for terrorists, and enabling the parliament to bypass the Supreme Court among others. The development comes as Likud politicians look to divide right-wing politicians before Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid is expected to receive the mandate to form a government after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s expired on Tuesday at midnight.
