After a dreadful start to the season, the Mets and their offense have come alive.

On a cloudy spring day at Citi Field, the Mets defeated the Pirates for their first sweep of the season.

Luis Severino was on the mound and continued his strong start to the season, having his best performance yet as a Met. Going six innings for the first time in his short Mets’ career, Severino allowed just one unearned run, while striking out four batters. The one run Severino surrendered came in the third inning, where Henry Davis reached base on catchers interference. After allowing a hit and a double play, Davis was able to score on a Bryan Reynolds infield single.

At the plate, the Mets’ offense continued to stay hot, scoring 9 runs. Starling Marte got the party started in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run homer, making the Pirates lead short lived and putting the Mets on top 2-1.

In the sixth inning, the Mets broke the game open, scoring 4 more runs to make it 6-1. Tyrone Taylor had a two-run single before Harrison Bader hit a two-run homer to left field. In the eighth inning, they continued to pour it on, scoring three more runs against the Pirates bullpen, making it 9-1.

In relief of Luis Severino, the Mets’ bullpen continued their stellar start to the year, tossing three perfect innings to secure the win and a 5-1 homestand. The Mets have tomorrow off before beginning a three-game showdown in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.
