SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Plans are in the works for a new billion dollar facility to bring environmentally conscious methanol production to the Port of Caddo-Bossier.

Bia Energy's new $1.2 billion facility is designed to produce 550,000 metric tons of blue and bio-methanol per year. The company said the new facility will reduce carbon emissions by over 92 percent compared to traditional methanol production and will include state-of-the-art docks, tank farms, and piping.

Construction of the new 74-acre facility is expected to create nearly 350 jobs. Bia Energy said that once operational, it will create 75 new direct jobs and another 390 indirect jobs in northwest Louisiana.

A partnership with CapturePoint will allow the facility to capture and transport CO2 from the site. Tracy Evans, CEO of CapturePoint LLC, said the project will transport up to 250,000 metric tons of CO2 to a safe underground storage facility every year.

Bia Energy's new production facility will provide a local source for companies looking to switch to low carbon methanol. Macquarie Commodities Trading is seeking companies in the chemical, maritime, manufacturing and industrial sectors that want to reduce their carbon footprint for offtake agreements with the new facility.

Bia Energy has signed on Houston-based S&B Engineers and Constructors as its Engineering,
Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor.

The company plans to financially close on its new facility this year and begin construction in late 2026.
