Rees-Zammit Omitted From Chiefs' Roster For 2024 Season

Former Wales rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit has not been included in the Kansas City Chiefs' roster for the upcoming 2024 season. The 23-year-old had been training with the Chiefs throughout the offseason after he quit rugby in January of this year to pursue his NFL career. Rees-Zammit began his NFL journey by entering the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP), where he embarked on a 10-week training program. During the offseason, NFL teams train with a squad of 90 but can only select 53 players before the start of a new season. ‘Cutdown Day’, which is when the team’s must cut their rosters down to 53 players, took place on Tuesday, August 27th. The Chiefs re-signed skilled receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on Monday, forewarning Rees-Zammit’s slim chances of making the active roster. The Welsh native’s fate for the season is not sealed, however, as he will be placed on ‘waivers’, meaning that another team can sign him. Rees-Zammit will remain part of the Chiefs’ practice squad, with the team able to promote him to their active roster up to three times during the season.
