Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has announced more than $300,000 to go towards battling the costs on installing energy-efficient lighting, heating and air systems and other measures.

The State Energy Program is responsible for the grants given out. It will provide assistance to decrease energy waste and lower energy costs. Replacements of outdated heating, cooling and lighting systems will be funded as well with modern upgrades.

“These State Energy Program funds will be put to good use in maximizing energy efficiency and lowering power bills for nearly a dozen city entities and nonprofit organizations across the state,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend these grant recipients for their focus on energy conservation.”

Those awarded grants are:

Fairhope – Two grants totaling $46,000 to install LED lighting upgrades, a solar water heater and provide air sealing of the heating and air system at Flying Creek Nature Preserve Center, and to provide LED lighting at the city’s wastewater treatment facility.

Phenix City – $24,750 to upgrade the heating and air-conditioning system in the gym at the C-Club Recreation Center.

Gadsden First United Methodist Church – $27,400 to install LED lighting upgrades in the church.

City of Huntsville Health Care Authority – $40,000 to install LED lighting upgrades at the Governor’s Medical Tower.

Hubbertville Community Foundation – $30,650 to install LED lighting and install heating and air-system upgrades and occupancy sensors.

Rogersville Water Works and Sewer Board- $25,000 to install and integrate energy efficient pumps and variable frequency drives at the Rogersville and Wheeler State Park wastewater treatment lagoons.

Saraland Water and Sewer System – $25,000 to install LED lighting and a lift station at the Saraland wastewater treatment facility.

South Central Alabama Development Commission (Montgomery) – $26,900 to install LED lighting at the Lewis F. Duckworth Administrative Building.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park (Mobile) – $40,000 to install energy efficient heating and air-conditioning systems with digital thermostats.

Southface Energy Institute Inc. – $25,000 to develop and provide energy code training, resources and technical assistance for municipal and county building code officials in Alabama.
