‘Hollywood’ donkey grants dying hospice patient’s final wish
A dying patient has had her last 'wish come true' - after being visited by a ‘Hollywood’ donkey and giving it a back scratch. St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton put out an appeal for help after patient Jacquie shared her heartfelt desire. After posting on social media, the community shared the post, tagged friends and contacted businesses to find the donkey for Jacquie. Polly and Richard Norman responded and brought Britney the donkey in to meet Jacquie and other patients at the hospice. Britney has appeared in films and television shows, even working alongside Hollywood A-listers on confidential projects. Despite her declining health, Jacquie was able to gently scratch Britney’s back - fulfilling her final wish. Hayley Milne, Head of Communications at St Margaret’s said the moment was an "incredible sight". She added: “It really lit her face up.” Richard Norman echoed the sentiment, sharing that the experience brought a lump to his throat. Hayley said it was "challenging" to find the donkey but it made Jacquie's "wish come true". She said the power of Facebook came through and the response was "overwhelming". Before long, Polly and Richard Norman came forward, introducing the team to Britney the donkey. On a bright Saturday afternoon, Britney arrived at the hospice, walking calmly through the corridors and visiting not only Jacquie but several other patients and their families. Hayley added: "Her presence brought smiles, laughter, and emotion, as patients reached out to stroke her soft coat and enjoy time in her company."
