Update from Flipboard CEO Mike McCue

Thank you everyone for the incredible response to Flipboard. For the last 36 hours we have been managing an explosive rush of new users which has clearly been beyond our wildest expectations.

Currently, everyone who downloads Flipboard can flip through all the public content we link to. Of course, the main point of Flipboard is to enable people to also look at their Facebook and Twitter content. So far, we've enabled about half of all people to setup their Facebook and Twitter sections on Flipboard. Once setup, we are able to give all of these people a terrific experience. This will continue to be our top priority.

Since we launched, we have been allowing waves of new users in for setup on a first come first serve basis. This has been problematic due to the sheer number of people trying to get setup at once. To solve this, we have put an invitation system in place. A new version of Flipboard (ver 1.0.1) is now available on the App Store. This version enables people to reserve a setup slot and to enter their email address so that we can notify them once their slot has opened up.

In the meantime, all users who download Flipboard, including those awaiting setup, will continue to be able to freely explore all the content we link to on Flipboard. Please follow our Twitter account at twitter.com/flipboard or enter your email address at flipboard.com for continued updates. We will notify everyone once the invitation system is no longer required for setup.

We apologize that we have not been able to setup everyone right away and we will continue to work incredibly hard to enable this. We're humbled by all the good things you've been saying about Flipboard and we are incredibly appreciative of your patience and understanding as we work through this initial burst of interest. Thank you again for all your enthusiasm and support.
