Chennai, India - April 16, 2025 A brave man saved a 9-year-old schoolboy from electrocution in a flooded street, preventing a potentially deadly incident by acting quickly in a dangerous situation involving water and electrical hazards. The incident occurred in Arumbakkam, in Chennai district, in southern India’s Tamil Nadu, on April 16. Visuals show a boy was walking through a waterlogged street when he accidentally stepped on an electric wire, causing him to fall into the water and cry for help. A motorcyclist stopped his bike on the flooded road, risking his life, and rescued the boy from the water. According to reports, Kannan Thamizhselvan, a 24-year-old diploma engineer, saved Jaden Ryan, a class three student, from electrocution in Arumbakkam. Jaden fell into standing puddles after being startled by a leaky underground wire. Kannan quickly pulled him out, performed CPR using techniques he learned from YouTube, and rushed the unconscious boy to the hospital. Kannan said, “It was raining heavily, and there was water stagnation. I was on my way when I saw him fall down. I thought he might have slipped, but as I went closer, I saw his limbs move rapidly and realised he was being electrocuted.” “I called for help, but no one came forward. I went closer and touched him. I got electrocuted as well, but still I pulled him out. We then pressed his chest to make him breathe, gave first aid, and took him to the hospital,” he further added. The Assistant Executive Engineer of TNPDCL (Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited) for Arumbakkam explained that the leak occurred because of a small puncture in the underground cable, which happened when the roads were resurfaced by Greater Chennai Corporation contractors.
