Indian army launches massive operation to clear live shells scattered in civilian zones amid cross-border tensions
Rajouri - May 12, 2025 To protect civilians from danger caused by Pakistan’s intense artillery shelling, the Indian Army, along with local police, has initiated a large-scale clearance mission to detect and defuse unexploded shells scattered in populated regions, which pose serious threats to lives. The incident took place in several areas in Rajouri district, in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir, on May 12. Visuals show that the Indian Army, along with local Jammu and Kashmir police, is destroying the live artillery shells in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, in an effort to protect civilians in areas impacted by Pakistan's intense artillery shelling, the Indian Army, alongside Jammu and Kashmir police, has launched a comprehensive area clearance mission. The operation focuses on locating and neutralizing live artillery shells fired by Pakistan that have scattered across civilian zones, posing a significant threat to innocent lives. Officials revealed that Indian Army units, in coordination with local police, are working diligently to locate these unexploded shells, which are then destroyed through controlled detonations conducted by the Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad. "This initiative is vital for ensuring the safety of civilians who have been living in constant fear of these unexploded shells," said Lieutenant Colonel Amar, who leads the Bomb Disposal Squad. He emphasized that this operation highlights the army's dedication to protecting civilian lives. The army also mentioned that clearing the area of these hazardous shells is crucial to preventing further casualties and restoring a sense of security among residents. According to officials, five to six heavy artillery shells were destroyed on Monday, with over a dozen more identified and slated for destruction. Jaswant Singh, a local resident from the affected region, expressed his concerns about the ongoing threat, stating that neutralizing these live shells is critical to preventing significant loss of life and property.
