India: Elderly woman attacked with sickle inside home, intruder arrested
Punjab, India - March 21, 2025 [WARNING: violent content] An intruder broke into a house in an upscale locality, attacked a 65-year-old woman with a sickle, and fled before being arrested by the police. The incident took place at house number 262 in Shri Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, Jalandhar, Punjab, northern India, on March 21. The visual shows an elderly woman running outside, crying for help, as the robber follows closely behind, brandishing a sickle. He then attacks her before fleeing the scene. Another woman emerges as they both stand near the gate. According to reports, at approximately 12:20 pm. The suspect, identified as Rajan, a resident of Lamma Pind, allegedly entered the house with the intent to commit robbery. Inside, the women panicked upon seeing the armed intruder. As they attempted to escape, the assailant seized one of them, identified as Neelam Gupta, and attacked her arm while restraining her near the entrance. She sustained serious injuries. The attack triggered chaos in the house, and the victims raised the alarm. Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams and saw a masked man wielding a sickle fleeing towards the market. Despite attempts to catch him, he managed to escape. Following a police investigation, the Ramamandi Police Station arrested Rajan. Station in-charge Parminder Singh confirmed the arrest and stated that further investigations are underway. The incident has left residents fearful. The locality consists of six major colonies built on Municipal Improvement Trust land. In response, locals have demanded heightened security. Bloodstains were visible at the house entrance, a stark reminder of the brutal attack. The victim’s family, including Gaurav Gupta, was too shaken to speak to the media.
