The unique weather vane that tops Hazlerigg Hall has always been a campus landmark. It depicts the intrepid Doctor Herbert Schofield, founder of the then Loughborough College, departing for America to raise support for his vision of a world-leading educational establishment. As he runs to catch his ship, the students wave him off, while one sobs into a handkerchief.
