Former Formula 1 team owner and TV pundit Eddie Jordan has passed away at the age of 76, his family has announced. Jordan, who had announced last year that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, was surrounded by family when he died in the early hours of March 20 in Cape Town. "Eddie and Jordan Grand Prix were known for their rock and roll image, bringing a fun and exciting element to F1, as well as consistently performing above their weight. EJ brought an abundance of charisma, energy and Irish charm everywhere he went. We all have a huge hole missing without his presence," said Jordan's family. The family also noted how “many successful F1 drivers owe their career breaks to Eddie,” with world champions Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill also driving for Jordan. Jordan’s Formula 1 team, Jordan Grand Prix, made its debut in 1991, with the team winning four races over the following 15 years. The team even challenged for the 1999 drivers’ championship before a steady decline led to the Jordan Grand Prix being sold in 2005. Jordan went on to become a TV pundit for BBC Sport and Channel 4, with the Irishman becoming known for his straightforward talking and proficiency in breaking news stories.
