UK: Smart daughter, 2, saves her diabetic father during hypoglycemia attack
England, United Kingdom - May 05, 2025 A caring toddler rushed to collect her diabetic father^s medicine while he was having a hypoglycemic attack. Two-year-old Zab Demegillo was waking up her dad, Ymmanuel, 31, but the quick-thinking youngster immediately knew something was wrong when he would not respond. CCTV from the home in Berkshire, England, footage shows Zab screaming ƃdaddyƎ and hugging YmmanuelƩs head when he failed to answer. Zab kept checking on him until the parent told his daughter, ȎIȕm hypoȡ, a phrase they had taught her to recognise, indicating he needs his medicine. Realising her mum had already gone to work, Zab climbed down the bed and went to the living room She then began rummaging through the side table to take a pill box during the incident on May 5. The smart daughter then opened the container and took a glucose tablet before administering it to the sick Ymmanuel, whose blood sugar level had dropped below normal. Zab climbed back to bed and made Ymmanuel take the medicine, chew, and swallow it, saving him from danger. While waiting for her father to feel well, Zab said: ҄When daddy is hypo, give chocolates and sweets.ҹ Speaking after, proud said Ymmanuel added: ӬWe always tell Zab that Daddy is diabetic and sometimes goes hypo. ԶWe just thought it might be worth teaching her the basics of what to do in case it happens. So we showed her where the glucose tablets are and explained what to do if Daddy goes into hypoglycemia. We regularly remind her and ask her questions to reinforce it. We honestly never expected anything from it, but weٺre so glad she remembered and had the presence of mind to do what needed to be done. We usually talk to her like she۴s an adult.܅ The father-of-one added said his child had learned by example. He added: ݗIf you want them to be kind, show kindness. If you want them to be responsible, let them see you follow through on commitments. ߞWhen respect, patience, empathy, and honesty are modelled consistently, those values take root more deeply than any lecture ever could. Hypoglycemia is a medical condition that happens when the blood sugar level drops too low, causing symptoms like shakiness, confusion, sweating, dizziness, irritability, and in severe cases, seizures or loss of consciousness.
