This influential avant-garde movement championed a type of art that ran counter to the prevailing styles of the market and challenged the commercial tendencies of the West in the mid-1960s.

Warhol’s Celebration

Andy Warhol created this work to fund millennium celebrations for the infamous <i>Committee 2000</i>.<p>The “committee” was an informal group of 20 men (including Joseph Beuys) founded in 1982. They planned to fill a room with 2000 bottles of champagne, seal it, and then see who was still around at the end of the century to drink it. Sadly, Warhol would never see the millennium. The subject is pure Warhol - champagne glasses and confetti - optimistic symbols for a new beginning.
