There is no consensus of how many continents there are in the world

Depending on where you were born and what country you went to school in, you may have learned that there are five, six, or even four continents. Traditionally in the United States, you may have learned there are seven continents in the world: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America. This is because there are no official criteria for determining continents.
