DAY 13 with @day1yoga 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 Good Morning! Day 13 of the #ashtangayogachallenge! Jumping back! 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 The primary series is meant to be "yoga chikitsa" or yoga therapy. For yoga to work it's therapeutic effects on the body first and then perhaps the mind, great change must take place, but slowly slowly over time. My theory on the powerful healing and changing effects that primary series has on the body is to first loosen the lower half of the body, primarily through a series of forward bending, and secondly to develop strength and stability especially in the upper half of the body, mainly in the arms, back and shoulders. There is no better and shining example of this strength than the Jump Back. So I will do my best attempt to explain this elusive transition: 1⃣ Cross your legs and squeeze them to your chest. Squeeze hard but not too hard, because you have to be able to let your legs go once you are lifted. Drop your shoulders down your back so your lats engage and spread your shoulder blades apart so your chest engages. 2⃣ Place your hands in front of your hips and behind your feet. Have your feet already off the ground before you lift. 3⃣ Inhale and straighten your arms while keeping the rest of your body in that little package. Make sure when you lift your shoulder blades stay apart, if not your chest and body will sag. Do not hunch your shoulders forward, just keep them down (away from your ears). 4⃣ Exhale and bend your elbows so that your head and chest move forward and begin to drop towards chatvari position. As your head goes down, naturally your butt will go up. When your butt goes up loosen the grip on your legs and allow them to extend backwards into a good chatvari postion. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 ⭐️Note: numbers 1,2,3,& 4 are all easier said than done. If you are having trouble, do not resort to tapping your foot, or straight jumping off your feet.
