Few destinations in recent memory have overwhelmingly surprised me as much as Taiwan. Visiting on a whim out of curiosity, I came with few expectations and very little clue what was ahead of me.
Taiwan, an Island Full of Fun
Compared to other destinations in East Asia, Taiwan generally receives far fewer international visitors than its neighbours. Which is a real shame, as Taiwan can be a whole lot of fun. Its cities buzz with energy, its restaurants and street markets bursting with tantalising food, and don't get me started on its breathtaking mountain scenery. It's time to notice Taiwan.
Where to Start
These three cities are the most common places to start a Taiwan visit
Beautiful Nature
A taste of what the magnificent mountains of Taiwan have to offer
Although the tourist masses flock to Alishan, there are several other crowd-free places to witness breathtaking sunrises, sunsets, and seas of clouds …
Sometimes things just don't break your way. After learning that Taiwan was more than just an urban destination, I was keen to explore some of the island's mountainous interior.
Other Cities and Towns
There are so many more places to go in Taiwan than you realize
When not to go

Sometimes things just don't break your way. That was clearly the case when I visited Taitung on Taiwan's east coast last October. This wasn't because there was anything wrong with the small city.
