Major League Baseball ramped up surveillance efforts this week to prevent pitchers from using sticky substances to improve their grip. Umpires can spot-check a pitcher's glove, hat, belt, and body throughout the game and opposing managers can request checks. If a foreign substance is found, a pitcher can be banned for 10 games.
