Several Top Golfers Withdraw from British Open Field Due to COVID-19 Concerns

Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and fellow Grand Slam winners Bubba Watson and David Duval have pulled out of next week's Open Championship. Seven players from the world's top 75 rankings will not be at Royal St. George's and in total, 13 golfers have withdrawn. Matsuyama tested positive for COVID-19 while in action this month. Watson said he was in close contact with someone who had a positive COVID-19 test. The tournament's strict virus protocols have been a contentious issue among players.
