Obama Makes His Return to the White House

It’s a homecoming more than five years in the making. Former President Barack Obama returned to the White House today to help the Biden administration promote the Affordable Care Act. It’s Obama’s first official visit since he left office in 2017, and the first time he and Biden have appeared in public together since September 11, 2021.

    In true Obama fashion, the former president sprinkled his speech with a few jokes, including a nod to Biden's famous hot mic moment at the Affordable Care Act bill signing: "If you can get millions of people health coverage and better protection, it is to quote a famous American, a 'pretty big deal.'"

    Obama's Got Receipts

    Obama lists off his administrations' accomplishments, including helping to save the global economy, turning the auto industry around, and putting record investments in clean energy and guardrails on the financial system. He adds: "But nothing made me prouder than providing better health care and more protections to millions of people across this country."

    Biden's Direct Appeal to GOP

    President Biden on Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act: “I got a better idea — instead of destroying the Affordable Care Act, let’s keep building on it.”

    Biden's Turn To Joke

    Hey, Obama can't have all the fun. Biden: "Welcome back to the White House, man. Feels like the good old days. Being here with you brings back so many good memories. We just had lunch together, and we weren't sure who was supposed to sit where."
