NY Attorney General Announces Civil Lawsuit Against Trump

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday announced a civil lawsuit against former president Donald Trump, three of his children, and others. Among the allegations, the lawsuit claims Trump, his family, and members of the Trump Organization engaged in fraud to inflate the value of Trump’s properties and his net worth.     James called for New York to “permanently prohibit any of [Trump’s] companies from doing business in the state.”

    AG: Mar-a-Lago Revenue Valuations Were Inflated

    James alleged Trump and others inflated the revenue valuations of his estate, Mar-a-Lago: “[Mar-a-Lago] generated average revenues of less than $25 million and should’ve been valued at about $75 million. However, Mar-a-Lago was valued as high as $739 million.”

    AG: Trump Inflated Value of His Assets

    Furthermore, James claimed Trump inflated the value of his assets "by whatever means necessary" to increase his net worth: "We uncovered more than 200 examples of false and misleading evaluations that were used on his statements."

    Possible Criminal Charges?

    While James’ lawsuit is a civil one, the state attorney general confirmed her office will share her investigation's findings to offices that could bring criminal charges against Trump.
