Dazzling Images of the Super Pink Moon

The first of two super moons that can be seen in 2021 premiered this week. Super moons are full moons that appear larger and more luminous in the sky because they are in perigee, a bit closer to Earth than usual. The super pink moon is named for a pink wildflower, Phlox subulata. The moon never actually turns colors. The super pink moon reached peak size in the early hours of Tuesday morning and shined 30 percent brighter than a normal full moon.
