Big Ideas: Quantum Supremacy Claim And Partial Victory In Polio Eradication

Google announced today that it has achieved a long-awaited milestone called "quantum supremacy" for the first time. The technology giant made the landmark claim that Sycamore, its 54-qubit processor, was able to perform the target computation in just 200 seconds that would have taken the world’s fastest supercomputer 10,000 years. However, IBM researchers disputed these claims. Plus, Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos' aerospace start-up, is collaborating with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Draper Laboratory, to build the lander that will take astronauts back to the Moon in 2024. And, the decades-long fight against polio reached a partial victory as wild polio virus type 3 was certified as eradicated worldwide.
