Uber and Lyft Pushed to Keep Drivers As Gig Workers, So How Did That Work Out?

When California's legislature passed a law mandating gig workers be company employees, Uber, Lyft, Postmates and Instacart fought back. These tech companies backed a passing voter proposition (Prop 22), undoing the state's law specifically for their drivers and shoppers. Now months later, the companies have raised fees (after promising not to) and drivers complain of lower wages. But Prop 22 is being seen as a model for regulating gig workers both nationally and abroad.
