Tech's Fear of One Second

How fast the earth spins can have serious consequences for technology. In some instances, international timekeepers add what's known as a "leap second" to the day in order to sync the planet's speed with atomic time-keeping. Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and others are petitioning that we do away with this practice, claiming it creates more problems — like internet outages — than benefits.
