On July 31, 408 hot air balloons took to the skies in Chambley, France, as part of this year's Lorraine Mondial international hot air balloon festival. The event was a successful attempt to set a world record for a mass hot air balloon takeoff. This was actually the second record broken at the festival this year, as the prior record of a 343-balloon takeoff was also set earlier in the festival. Despite poor weather conditions forcing the cancellation of more than half of the planned mass takeoffs, over 350,000 people came out to watch the flights throughout the festival. Nearly 1,000 hot air balloons were estimated to be in attendance. For more photos and videos from the hot air balloon festival and the record-breaking takeoff, check out the #lmab13, #mondialairballons and #chambley hashtags. Video by @skapier

One year ago today, the Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリ) officially opened to the public. Standing 634 meters (2,080 feet), the Skytree is the tallest tower and the second largest structure in the world. The Skytree took four years to build and in the last year alone over 6.3 million people visited the tower—many capturing the experience on Instagram. Since the beginning of May, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman's 16-meter (52-foot) rubber duck has turned Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour into a giant bathtub. Instagrammers there have captured the giant duck's daily travels about the harbor and were on hand to photograph its deflation in mid-May (part of scheduled maintenance work according to the exhibition organizers). To view more photos of the famed rubber ducky, be sure to tap the blue location text above this image and browse the #FlorentijnHofman hashtag. Photo by @samyung888

Be sure to update to the latest version of Instagram so you can share who is in the silhouette by adding people to your photograph! Some tips to get you started: Make sure there is plenty of light coming from behind your subject to create the perfect silhouette, tap on the brightest part of the scene to set the exposure, use golden hour to your advantage—sunrise and sunset are the best times to take silhouette portraits.
