Matt Doust 1984 - 2013. Matt Doust, a brilliantly talented artist, passed away Tuesday night at the age of 29. His large scale portraits displayed an ability far beyond most of his contemporaries and he had a supernatural knack for capturing the light and beauty of his subjects. I considered him to be one of the best artists at his subject matter and style for his generation. Born in Santa Monica, California he was raised in Perth, Australia having just moved back to the United States in 2011. He was named as an Archibald Prize finalist in 2011, Australia’s most prestigious portraiture prize. Doust suffered from epilepsy and died after a seizure sometime Tuesday night. Share his wonderful work for the world to see. Rest in peace!
