A Call to Tax Fossil Fuel Companies

In his opening remarks before the U.N. General Assembly, Secretary-General António Guterres proposed that the world take a firmer stance on protecting the planet. He said polluters should pay for the climate-related damages they cause. And the world body's chief didn't mince words when saying who should be the target of these penalties: the fossil fuel industry. But achieving this is easier said than done — it's an extremely divisive issue among rich and poor nations.
