Summer reading-During the summer, we had to read a book that connected to biology in some way. I chose Mendel in the Kitchen which was a very interesting book through which I learned that most foods are genetically modified. When we came to school, we had to make a book trailer about it to show what we had learned which I thought was a very good way to interpret what we had learned instead of taking a test on it because this was more effective and fun for the students.

Microscopy- In our Mitosis Lab, it was very hard at first to find the cells and zoom in on them and focus on them. This lab taught us a new skill, microscopy. After really looking closely and getting familiar with the gadgets on the microscope, we could perfectly see all the cells going through interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. http://flip.it/y_mjE7
Science and Laboratory Skills- The Handwash Lab is a very unique and interesting way to show us how to conduct a lab. Doing the lab was very fun and a great learning experience since we never really had any experience how to conduct a proper lab before. It was also very crucial to follow the directions in this lab so that you don’t mix up the tests or you don’t test for 2 variables in the same beet. There were many possible errors that could’ve been made which showed us that following directions is key when conducting a lab. http://flip.it/wSwjzD
Enzymes-This semester, we conducted a lab to observe the enzyme catalase activity in potatoes. This lab really taught me something new because before I didn’t really know what a catalase was and what it does in terms of science. Watching the potato buildup was pretty cool because I didn’t really think that would happen. It was very interesting and gave me a better understanding of what a catalase is and what it does. http://flip.it/Wjekcy
