Ocean Breeze. The beauty of life along the edge of the sea is the constancy of the wind. Like so many aspects of life here of course, such wind can be a double edge sword as its power to destroy is a duality that lingers in the air each and every hurricane season. For these wild horses however, on a warm spring day such as this one, this wind is a Godsend. Moving his harem of mares out to the edge of the island, Waterspout faces into the wind and breathes deeply as the cool salty breeze rolls in off the Ocean. He and his girls just stand there for long stretches of time facing out over the water as if surveying their world and pondering the big questions of life. Arabic cultures called their horses the Drinkers of the Wind. As I sit here watching the different herds on these islands that I have have come to know over the years, I simply cannot help but to find this name profoundly fitting. This is a stallion named Waterspout for the tornado shaped blaze on his forehead. A stallion that is aptly named I would say. This is one of my favorite stallions that I work with on the islands.
