Hong Kong now has an official poverty line. For 2012, the poverty line was a monthly income of HK$3,600 for a single person, HK$7,700 for a two-person household and HK$14,300 for a family of four. Under this calculation, nearly 20% of Hongkongers were living in poverty last year. "The setting of the poverty line has helped us size up the problem.
