Qigong and Tai Chi are close cousins. Qigong predates tai chi by many years, and was originated as a regimen for better health and wellness for its' practitioners. Tai Chi is essentially Qigong with martial arts movements added. Qigong is practiced essentially in one spot, while Tai Chi involves a specified sequence of movements, flowing one into the other. Thus, Qigong is much easier for the beginner to learn.
