  • Passion or Engagement // (Grape Osmosis Lab) Cell Transport - This lab helped me understand the difference between hypotonic, hypertonic, and isotonic solutions. It also showed the diffusion of substances across cell membranes. Doing labs is helpful because they give me an opportunity to do a hands-on activity relating to the chapter.

  • Passion or Engagement // (Elodea Leaf Lab) Photosynthesis - This was one of my favorite labs because I got to blow carbon dioxide into a beaker of bromothymol blue. In this lab, we learned about how plants require light to do photosynthesis. Without light, the plants would not be able to produce any oxygen or glucose. This lab made photosynthesis easier to understand because I could see the effects of photosynthesis firsthand.

  • Passion or Engagement // (Saturday School) Water as a Solution for Living Things - In Saturday School, I was solving one of the puzzles for the Breakout game. I had to fill out notes about water, which is sometimes referred to as the universal solvent. I had to think of possible combinations from "H2O" in order to open one of the locks. The Breakout game was a fun and engaging way to look back at my notes about water.

  • Passion or Engagement // (Mitosis Lab) Cell Division - The mitosis lab taught me a lot about cell division. At first, I didn't really understand the cell cycle, but this lab helped me considerably. Since I could actually see the cells with my own eyes, I was more engaged in learning about cell division. Instead of just reading about it in the textbook, I was able to see real examples of cells that were in each phase.
