Hairy Bikers meet the 4709 project. The construction of 4709 is one of the landmark projects to be featured in a new BBC TV series in which The Hairy Bikers visit the people restoring our industrial heritage. You can see Si and Dave getting their hands dirty on 4709 in the final episode of Restoration Road Trip to be broadcast on BBC2 on Sunday 25 August at 9pm. This photograph was taken during filming at Llangollen on 14 May, and is copyright David Wilcock. It shows 2-8-0 No 2861 being dismantled to retrieve parts for the 4709 project. The three episodes will be broadcast on 11, 18 and 25 August, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01d88vw/episodes/guide The 4709 Project's website is at http://www.knowles-cadbury-brown.co.uk/4709/

The irresistible allure of a garden train

Phones4u founder, John Caudwell isn't the only one on board for a railway in his back garden. Christopher Middleton meets others with a locamotive passion and they're not all millionaires.<p>It all started 45 years ago, when Drummond Randall took his three-and-a-half-year-old son for a day out on the …

Had fun creating this image of Class 14xx No1466 at Didcot. To transfere the busy "look all around" shed feel to the way the human mind experiences images, this image tweaks a few compositional rules to hopefully force your eye around the scene. Love to know the route your eyes take 8^)

Great Little Trains of Wales

Great Little Trains of Wales shared Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway members and supporters's photo.

37250 arrives back at Leeming after hauling a staff/volunteer fish and chip special to mark the WR's tenth anniversary.

Congratulations to Mallard on the 75th anniversary of its 126mph record. Is any other world record still unbroken after three quarters of a century? Our photograph shows Mallard 65 years ago in 1948, ten years after it became the world's fastest steam locomotive. No 22 is in impeccable GWR surroundings during the locomotive exchanges of that year, heading a train out of Paddington station. The familiar bowstring girder bridge frames the scene which includes chocolate and cream coaches and early colour light signals.
