Earlier this week, Flipboard alerted our app users that Kamala Harris was the “first person of color” to hold the office of Vice President of the United States. We were wrong. While Harris should be celebrated as the first woman, first African American and first Asian American to hold the office, she is not the first POC. That distinction belongs to Charles Curtis, who was elected as Herbert Hoover’s vice president in 1928. Curtis was a Native American and a member of the Kaw Nation.
