What is the 'Great Replacement' Theory?

The suspect behind the Buffalo attack that left 10 people dead and three injured was believed to be inspired by the conspiracy theory that sees the influence of white populations in the West threatened by minorities. Payton Gendron, 18, allegedly published a 180-page document online citing the belief as a rationale for his actions. Similarities have been made to past racially motivated shootings and some analysts have linked the theory's growing popularity to right-wing politicians in the U.S.
