April Jobs Report Falls Far Short of Expectations

Sunny projections met a harsh reality on Friday when a lackluster jobs report for April was released. To nearly everyone’s surprise, employers added a mere 266,000 jobs, down significantly from a gain of 770,000 in March, and the employment rate edged up to 6.1%. Many forecasters had predicted a gain of nearly a million jobs last month.
