America's Gun History

America's most significant gun bill in three decades became law in June after several recent mass shooting tragedies. Why has it taken the deaths of so many to spur legislative action? Aside from the NRA's powerful influence and efforts to protect the Second Amendment, the reason might be traced back through America's history with guns. Firearms culture is often perceived as an intrinsic part of U.S. society, dating back to the Old West, but the past may reveal a surprisingly different picture.
