Two reasons I perform pull ups with ropes 1) emphasis is placed on rhomboids depending if you finish below your chest {sternum} 2} it let's you know which lat is doing majority of the work. For example, if the right side is dominant you will start rotating to your right vice versa for the left this let's you know if your form is off or if one side is just plain stronger.
