    L‘Etrusco | 8x10inch | 20x25cm | collodion and silver on clear glass

These are two portraits of Salvator Fusci that I took during my travels to Bomarzo, Italy at the beginning of February. I used the wet plate collodion process, which dates back to 1851, to capture both images on 8x10 inch clear glass plates. The portraits were taken on location at the Etruscan Pyramid in Bomarzo. This pyramid was discovered by two local archaeologists, Giovanni Lamoratta and Giuseppe Maiorano, in 1991. It wasn't until 2008 when Salvatore Fusci, a passionate resident of Bomarzo, decided to uncover the pyramid. Fusci was inspired by the stories his grandfather and father shared about the pyramid, which they referred to as the "Sasso del Predicatore" or the "Stone with Steps." He cleared away the roots and vegetation to make this remarkable piece of history accessible to the world.

I shared two pictures of the pyramid a week ago. If you're interested in the making of my project, "Tuscia in Plates," you can watch a short documentary by Sigfrido Hobel @projecttuscia here:
