SHARE & ENJOY: Tron Legacy | Light Jet. Final 3D design study. It's one of my favorite machines I designed for the movie. Director J.Kosinksi asked for a more 'glider' or 'bomber' like feel than I originally envisioned, and design peer David Levy helped out with great silhouette ideas. The little turret on the right is in fact an extremely complex model, designed for Garrett Hedlund's close-up action shots. A lot of 3D modeling on that one done by Joe Hiura. The interior is fully designed too, and will be shared later. Did you like the jet in the film ? SHARED HOLLYWOOD: Aircraft style research by Daniel Simon | Captain America feature film First ideation sketches for the small aircraft that are tugged inside the massive flying wing. This exercise was to find the style: authentic, retro, comical, grotesque, or modern. One of them would be featured in an action scene, so it became a feature vehicle. On the right center you see the chosen concept, with rear props, rear cabin, a simplistic fuselage and a bomb shell which functions as the aircraft's nose in flight. © 2009 MARVEL STUDIOS / Daniel Simon www.danielsimon.com

Lets take the magic of the name "Lamborghini" out of the equation and lets look at the 'Veneno' super car with neutral eyes, as you would find it in a design book. I find that a brand with such high value is responsible to promote sophistication to the public, and not encourage - or for that matter 'legalize' - outrageous surfacing to young designers.

I just had my crazy Chaga morning tea and this is hitting the news. The 4,600,000$ Lamborghini Veneno. Limited to three , sold out. I am rather confused by its transitions between shapes. Many areas feel pinched and twisted. The performance will quiet all doubts, absolutely, but the sections and surfaces in the front ... well, to stay on topic, not my cup of tea. These are only pictures, we all know how reality can change opinions is a second ... sometimes.

HOLLYWOOD FILES: Please share. 2073 Oblivion Bubbleship. Design Joe Kosinski / Daniel Simon. I started the first concepts back in 2009 for director Joe Kosinski, who's appreciation for design is amazing. Little did I know that it would turn into my most complex development challenge, all the way into 2012 with a fully accessible full-size built, infused with first-hand pilot expertise by actor Tom Cruise. Kosinski's brief was clear from the start: To create a blend of a dragonfly and a Bell 47 - in a symbiosis of tangible materials and mechanics. This drawing documents the thought process. Much more to come. Production designer: Darren Gilford Art director: Kevin Ishioka © Universal

SHARED MOVIE MAGIC: Feel free to share. Bubbleship Final Design Illustration The L.A.Times just published this drawing of mine including a flattering mentioning by director Joe Kosinski. The drawing shows the landing gear fold, which kept me awake a few weeks to solve. I went through many versions, but this one is truly my favorite. SHARE: OBLIVION BUBBLESHIP DESIGN MODEL Share this if you like digital models...my final 3D Alias-model (modeling time ca. 8 hectic months with a myriad of alteration to make it work and look ok) that we used to manufacture the real ship. Geek info: The part lines on the engine pod arms are in the precise location to fit the fuselage into the only commercial plane flying to Iceland. 3D model: Daniel Simon 3D seat radii/window mullions: Daniel Kunzelmann Director: Joe Kosinski © Universal

SHARE: OBLIVION DRONE FINAL DESIGN, DANIEL SIMON Share this if you like evil drones! Director Joe Kosinski asked for a simple round drone - but as evil looking as possible. It challenged me until the last day, because a ball is in fact the cutest shape I can think of. When I finally found the four cornered X-face, I was relieved, it unites grim eyebrows and a grim mouth. The extending gun modules act like arms, their minimal moves allow very effective gestures. The sound team gave it freaking sinister sounds and Digital Domain animated it wonderfully. The complex inside of it was later sketched by the fantastic Thom Tenery and modeled by Joe Hiura.
