Join the Museum and The Humane Society of Southern Arizona for a fun fall camp: “When dogs were wolves and Cats were wild.” Kids can take a walk on the wild side of pets and compare domestic dogs, cats, birds, rodents and reptiles to their wild counterparts! You'll have an otterly fun time at the Zoo this weekend and next for Ottertoberfest presented by T-Mobile! Saturdays and Sundays, October 4-5 and 11-12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Zoo will host this fall event featuring traditional German biergartens, live music, otter-related kids' activities and more. And the best part - admission is free!

Blooming today in the Desert Grasslands exhibit- Velvet-pod Mimosa. As the 1- to 2-inch-long, marginally prickly, constricted fruit matures in late August, it develops a reddish brown tomentose (velvety) surface, hence the common name!

The Desert Museum is excited to announce the discovery of a new species: Tayasu unicornus, commonly known as the Sonoran Desert Unicorn. Although this animal is rare and usually eludes efforts to photograph it, Museum photographers managed to get a glimpse of it in its natural desert habitat.
