Photo @jbrussell #panospictures #panos for #everydayclimatechange Children gather at a watering hole used for migrating herds of sheep, cattle and camels during the dry season in the #Guidimakha province of #Mauritania. Only a few decades ago the vast majority of Mauritania's population were nomadic herdsmen. While the population remains mobile and #livestock play an important roll in the culture and daily life of Mauritanians, in recent years the society has become increasingly sedentary, relying on agriculture for sustenance. #Globalwarming and #climatechange have caused rainy seasons to fail and prolonged #draught throughout the #Sahel, drastically reducing grazing ares, ruining harvests, causing wide spread #foodinsecurity and contributing to large-scale emigration from rural areas to cities and abroad. #climatechangeisreal #desertification #photojournalism #documentary

I explore Singapore and its continuous vertical development as it tries to balance the urban cityscape of sky scrapers with artificial nature by installing vast green walls on a quest for vertical liveability. Her full #FutureOfCities series will go live on Wednesday 4th March on the Sony Global Imaging Ambassadors website http://imagingambassadors.sony.net/futureofcities shot on the @Sony #a7R with Sony FE 35mm F2.8 ZA #Zeiss lens

These #verticalgardens perform a multitude of functions, which include planting, shading and working as environmental engines for the gardens. Fitted with environmental technologies that mimic the #ecological function of #trees – photovoltaic cells that harness #SolarEnergy which can be used for some of the functions of the Supertrees, such as lighting (mimicking photosynthesis in nature); and collection of rainwater for use in garden irrigation and fountain displays, (mimicking rainwater absorption for growth in nature). The Supertrees also serve air intake and exhaust functions as part of the conservatories' cooling systems. Gardens by the Bay is an integral part of a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a "#GardenCity" to a "City in a Garden". The stated aim is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city. Tourists walk through the #CloudForest in #GardensByTheBay, a popular relaxation destination for many local residents escaping the humid heat of #Singapore. The Cloud Forest conservatory replicates the cool moist conditions found in tropical mountain regions between 1,000 metres and 3,000 metres above sea level, found in #SouthEastAsia, Middle- and South America.
