The holy and penitential season of Lent starts on AshWednesday, February 14, 2018. During this time, our Holy Mother Church invites us, amidst the busy world, to step back and take a look at our spiritual well-being (and by that, we mean our relationship with Jesus and His Church). Lent is a great opportunity to assess where we are in our spiritual journey, to examine our hearts, and to see how close to or how far we've gotten from Jesus. Now is the time to repent, to come back to our senses, and to realize that without Him we are nothing. He is love itself, and He is all we need in this life and the next. Like the forgiving father in the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Lk 15:11-32), God eagerly awaits our return most especially in the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) and the Holy Eucharist (Mass).

Happy New Year!

December 25 CHRISTMAS DAY More than nineteen hundred years ago, a decree went forth the Roman Emperor, caesar Augutus, commanding a general census in which all the people of the empire should be enrolled, “each in his own city,” that is, in the place to which his tribe and family belonged. Joseph and Mary went from Nazareth to Bethlehem, the city of David, because they were God, in an admirable fashion You established the dignity of human nature and you reformed it in a more admirable manner. Grant that we may come to share in the Divinity of Your Son Who chose to share our humanity and the family of that king. Bethlehem is situated about five or six mils south of Jerusalem, and nearly seventy-five miles south of Nazareth. There, in a stable, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world, was born, according to tradition, at midnight, or soon sfter, on December 25. And it came to pass that, when they were there, Mary “brought forth her first-born Son, and wrapped Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” The history of the first Christmas is made familiar to Catholics by the devotion of the “Christmas Crib.” In the year 1226, Saint Francis of Assisi, with the permission of the Pope, set up the first of these cribs for the purpose of instructing the people and increasing in their hearts love and devotion for the Infant Savior. Christmas takes its name from the central and supreme act of Christian worship. Christmas means “Christ’s Mass,” the Mass offered in honor of the birth of Christ. Nearly all European languages, except English, use a word signifying nativity or birthday of Christ to designate the feast of Christmas: in Latin, Dies Natalis; in Italian, ll Natale; in French the Latin form is softened into Noel. In all lands and languages the great fact commemorated is the birth of Christ, and the great action by which thaf fact is commemorated and renewed is the Mass. on Christmas priests may celebrate three Masses to honor the threefold birth of the Son of God: His birth in time and in our humanity in thd stable of Bethlehem; His spiritual birth by faith and charity in the souls of the shepherds, and in our souls, and in the souls of all who earneslty seek Him; and lastly, His eternal generation in the bosom of the Father.

It's the 9 Novena Masses Season again! Here are the reasons why we should participate in this unique Filipino Christmas tradition. 9 REASONS WHY WE SHOULD GO TO THE SIMBANG GABI OR MISA DE GALLO. 1. NOVENA - Novena's root word is "novem" which means "nine." in English. That's why it is called the Nine Masses. The Novena is for the Virgin Mary of Bethlehem. 2. PRAYER - Being a Novena, it is a prayer to God for graces. The first Novena was conducted by the apostles with the Virgin Mary before the Pentecost, on which they prayed for nine days after the Ascension, waiting for God's promise. 3. VOW - In the Novena, we make vows or holy promises. Vows are regarded by God as our personal and actual cooperation to graces. Many of us vowed to complete the Novena Masses. yet, if we promised to the Lord to complete it, we must fulfill it. The Bible says, 'fulfill your vow." (Ecc 5:4) 4. PREPARATION - Hearing the Nine Masses is an act or preparing for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, just as Mama Mary waited for nine months in pregnancy for the birth of her Son. 5. THANKSGIVING - Since Christmas is situated in December, the last month of the year, we give thanks to God for the blessings given to us for the whole year. 6. WORSHIP - The Holy Eucharist is the Church's highest form of prayer and worship. We rightfully worship God through the Mass. 7. WAITING - Waiting entails patience and yearning. In the Holy Mass, we express our hope. "Come, Lord Jesus!" 8. REPENTANCE - Remembering the Son of God Who is sent as Savior, we reject our sinful ways. Through the Nine Masses, we pave the way for the Lord to our lives, just as St. John the Baptist is calling us. 9. CELEBRATE - Christmas is a big celebration, not only on earth but also in heaven. "Glory to God in the highest, and peace to all people on whom God's favor rests," sang the angels. Celebrating Christmas with the Nine Masses make us join the heavenly celebration, it's worth it. #Pasko2017 #SimbangGabi #MisaDeGallo
