Her wide smokey eyebrows shadowing two grey topazes give her a melancholic look and probably mislead us to think that she is a sad pooch which she is not. One wonders what did happen to Macy, though…..Abrasions and cuts can be seen on her limbs and face. They do not seem to bother her . She is very thin and hungry, taking my treats rather greedily, jumping and standing on her hinds to catch them. Macy has quite an interest in the tennis ball, gets all focused as I am getting ready to throw it, runs after it and catches it expertly, playing with it for a moment. She is having fun. A little aloof at the beginning of our time together, Macy warmed up, let herself being petted and ended up on my lap for more closeness. She walks fast on the leash, eliminates on the way and pulls toward other dogs. It seems that she wants to play. Macy needs a bit of TLC, some mending of her wounds, regain some weight and mostly the care and the love of a master and the safety of a home. She is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center for her time to shine and be your forever best friend. 04/18/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - AVERAGE Exam Type BEHAVIOR Macy was sociable toward the handler during the assessment - soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Macy did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Macy approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body and ears relaxed. Macy is a very friendly dog, easy to handle. She did not show any concerning during the behavior assessment. The behavior department recommends that she can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog's mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game. She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1. He pulls slightly and does his business immediately without marking. As I unleash him in a large pen, he does not roam around but comes right away on my lap to kiss me...with his whole mouth and be caressed. He is very needy of human affection and lets me know that it is ok to smooch him and caress him all over… He is so silly. He Man is very good looking, perfectly built, the right amount of muscles, a sleek body in a perfectly groomed shiny ebony coat. He is the perfect picture of health. He owns such a beautiful smile. He Man can sit on command, does not mind me taking pictures of him and seems to really love other dogs. He play bows to them the same way he play bows to staff and volunteers coming to say hello. His body wiggles, his tail wags. I really see him in a doggie playground. He is so disappointed when a dog leaves our gate and starts to cry… He Man might have lived with other dogs..We will never know. He Man likes to run , jump and try to catch a tennis ball standing on his hind legs... We even danced..He likes to mouth a little, not with much pressure and stops when asked. He is a young guy, full of life who wants to have fun. Just like with a child, the master has to set limits and if you have a good dog like He Man, everything will be fine. We were all so impressed with He Man, a young adult we have at the Manhattan Care Center. Stray – Outside ORIGINAL SOURCE Found as a Stray WHY ARE YOU BRINGING THIS DOG IN? Is a Stray – Was Wandering Loose Does he get along with strangers? Yes 04/23/2014 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes: Midori is so beautiful, so gentle and so heartbreaking she'd inspire anyone to poetry and it doesn't take much imagination to see that, in the words of Langston Hughes, life for her ain't been no crystal stair. Her poor cropped ears still have stitches showing along their edges and at just two years old she's already been a teen mom. All this sweet girl really wants is to love and be loved in return but it takes a while to get past some initial hand-shyness before she'll let me put a scarf round her neck for our photo shoot. With her pretty spotted coat, Midori is an elegant natural beauty but it never hurts to accessorize and she wears her simple necklace as though it were diamonds. Soon she's taking treats gently from my hand and jumping up beside me on the bench, offering soft chin kisses when I lean in close and letting me pet her all over. Midori takes care of her business promptly and meets other dogs with a low-key kind of curiosity, apparently not that interested in making any new friends today. She seems to like the security of enclosed spaces and near the end of our time together, retreats beneath the chairs and peers out at me in the most pitiful way - how could anyone not fall in love with such an angel? A quiet home and a gentle hand are all Midori asks and with time and patience this sweetheart will soon transform into the social butterfly she was always meant to be. A volunteer writes: Sweet Midori, possibly named after the sweet liqueur? Maybe, but Midori brings with her a sweetness and innocence all her own. She's a long legged beauty in a gleaming brown and white coat and wagging tail. She seems younger than her estimated age, puppy curious about everything - a backyard hose being used, birds chirping, a door slamming, and a tennis ball. Chasing after it and pouncing on the ball - then what! Too cute to watch this little girl in action as she plays and then scampers under the bench, coming out the other side. She pulls hard on the leash so will need some leash training as well as training in some general commands. She's affectionate and friendly, ready to love and be loved. She can be shy with new people so needs a slow approach and gentle touch. Sweet Midori demonstrated some possible resource guarding in her behavior assessment so should go into an experienced home without young children. She has such sweet way about her she will be an amazing addition to the right person/family. 04/22/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - EXPNOCHILD Exam Type BEHAVIOR Midori pulls hard on leash. She briefly greeted the assessor with a soft body and wagging tail before continuing to investigate her environment. Midori maintained soft body language throughout the handling items of the assessment. She was stiff and took bigger bites during the food bowl test. She showed no interest in toys however she held onto her rawhide with stiff body language. Midori approached the helper dog with confident body language. Midori displayed concerns over food/resource guarding during her assessment. The behavior department recommends that she go to an experienced home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor's hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Cookie - Adopted! Money you donate for this dog could be considered Cookie dough! Estimated to be two years old, this Pit Bull mix arrived at the Chester County Animal Care & Control shelter in South Carolina on March 17th. She was surrendered by her owners. It was clear that Cookie had already produced one or more batches of puppies. And, her owners clearly did not use heartworm preventive: she tested heartworm positive. The combination of being a Pit Bull mix and heartworm positive did not bode well for Cookie.
