Why Do Americans Vote on a Tuesday in November?

When polled, 35% of registered voters stated that school or work conflicts kept them from voting in the 2014 election. Ten years later, the inconvenient timing remains. If work or school prevents people from exercising their constitutional right, then why haven’t we moved voting to a weekend when more people are free? It all comes down to an 1845 federal law.
