Discovery of New COVID-19 Variant in South Africa Renews Virus Fears

The latest on what we know about a new coronavirus strain found in Africa named B.1.1.529. The identification of the highly mutated variant has sparked concerns by scientists and caused some governments to reimplement travel bans. The strain has been detected in travelers to Belgium, Botswana, Hong Kong and Israel so far. The World Health Organization has labeled it Omicron, saying it's a variant of concern.
