The rust colored river, rich with Iron oxide and various minerals merging with the clear and silvery run-off from Bear Creak Falls. Sunset at the Doll House in #Canyonlands National Park. #Utah

There's a horse on a hill. I was rooting for California Chrome to win the Triple Crown this weekend.🏇

There is a place in Far West #Texas where night skies are dark as coal and rivers carve temple-like canyons in ancient limestone. Here, at the end of the road, hundreds of bird species take refuge in a solitary mountain range surrounded by weather-beaten desert. Tenacious cactus bloom in sublime southwestern sun, and diversity of species is the best in the country. This magical place is Big Bend National Park. Photo: Carol Hutchison

This image was the cover of my book "The Colorado River; Flowing Through Conflict" and now part of an outdoor photo exhibit featuring my work in Gacilly, #France all summer. Typically the #Colorado or “American Nile” runs #dry further south in Mexico, but this spring it briefly #kissed the sea due to a binational agreement, the first of its kind. See what it looked like in this video highlighting our mission to #paddleboard it. https://vimeo.com/97197932 @thephotosociety #raisetheriver #aerial #water #landscape #river #flow

@paulnicklen on assignment for @natgeo with @cristinamittermeier. After two weeks of searching we have finally found the elusive rain wolves of British Columbia. I am sure that they have been watching us the whole time. #picoftheday @photosociety #ghosts #patience @instagram

Happy National Get Outdoors Day! Participants from federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and the recreation industry are again teaming up to host the 7th annual National Get Outdoors Day to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun at sites across the nation. Today these diverse partners will offer opportunities for American families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. Prime goals of the day are reaching currently underserved populations and first-time visitors to public lands, and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors. Photo @ladzinski / A claustrophobic's nightmare, #SpookyGulch is a narrow slot canyon of ornate #NavajoSandstone in the #GrandStaircaseEscalante in Utah. To pass through requires a narrow chest-to-back squeeze through the tight passage, it's a beautiful natural wonder of erosion. @natgeocreative @3stringsproductions

Happy Pollinators Week! These hard-working animals help pollinate over 75% of our flowering plants, and nearly 75% of our crops. Often we may not notice the hummingbirds, bats, bees, beetles, butterflies, and flies that carry pollen from one plant to another as they collect nectar. Yet without them, wildlife would have fewer nutritious berries and seeds, and we would miss many fruits, vegetables, and nuts, like blueberries, squash, and almonds … not to mention chocolate and coffee…all of which depend on pollinators. Here’s a cool photo of two hummingbirds doing battle over territory at the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge in #California. Photo: Sarah Chah

Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge in #Iowa was established for the protection of migratory birds. It is located along the Mississippi River Flyway, one of the major routes for migrating waterfowl. Key goals of the refuge are to conserve and enhance the quality and diversity of fish and wildlife and their habitats; and to restore floodplain functions in the river corridor. Padre Island National Seashore in #Texas separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre, one of a few hypersaline lagoons in the world. The park protects 70 miles of coastline, dunes, prairies, and wind tidal flats teeming with life. It is a safe nesting ground for the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle and a haven for 380 bird species. It also has a rich history, including the Spanish shipwrecks of 1554. Photo: National Park Service
